Road from Mleta to Gudauri (1868) in the Caucasus is a mountainscape by Ivan Aivazovsky (1817-1900).

It is one of the many mountain scenes he painted while traveling this region. And despite the impressive road and mountains, he paid careful attention to the details in the landscape.

It is on display in the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts

Hermann Corrodi (1844-1905) painted this stunning Night on Mount Athos (in Greece) just before his death.

It was probably his last painting, and he may have been aware of it. So, we may see it as a symbol of his impending final ascent in which he showcased all his talents one more time.

In the painting, you can see seven monks with their lamps and walking sticks leading the ascent to church on the top.

It's not a realistic image though, as the church and the steps did not exist. A bit of fantasy, inspired by his travels.
