Girl with a Straw Hat, by Mary Cassatt. 🎨One of the many children paintings by the American artist portraying girls appearing to play dress-up. Isolated and required to stand still, her demeanour conveys a mixture of pensiveness, frustration, and boredom. While the subject matter captures a languid moment, the paint is handled energetically and with great artistic skill. 👨‍🎨Mary Stevenson Cassatt (American, 1844-1926) spent most of her life in France, where he entered the impressionist circles and befriended key figures such as Degas. Cassatt’s work is a soft, yet extraordinarily talented, penchant for representations of women’s’ life, both in their private and public lives but with a particular interest for motherhood. It is considered one of the “three ladies of impressionism” along with Berthe Morisot and Marie Bracquemond. After 1910, her increasingly poor eyesight virtually put an end to her serious painting, and she died in 1926. 📐Height: 65.3 cm (25.7 in). Width: 49.2 cm (19.4 in). Oil on canvas, 1886. 🏛National Gallery of Art, Washington DC. @ngadc What do you think about this? Share and follow @monteroneart for a daily 🎨!
