How do you interpret these works? Both of these works are called Spirit of the Death Mother and were created by the Czech painter and illustrator Jaroslav Panuška (1872-1958). The title suggests the interpretation that the artist gave to it, but to me it is a intriguing work that is open to many alternative interpretations. The works show an oversized spirit looking into the house of her family. These works are wonderful examples of the dark and sinister works that Panuška is best known for. During this training as an artist, Panuška learned that he should convey his inner emotions on the canvas. So, in his works he tried to capture the "soul" of nature, something that he attempted in these two works and many others. His inspiration came from heavy spells and nightmares that he experienced in which ghosts and death were frequently returning subjects. #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonCanvas #FineArts #ArtoftheDay #Nature #Nightmare #Nightmares #Soul #Ghost #Spirit #Dark #Sinister #Panuska #CzechArt #CzechArtist #CzechArtist
