When you are feeling nostalgic. The Daydreamer (1898) was painted by the Austrian landscape painter Wilhelm Bernatzik (1853-1906). This woman dressed in black is taking a moment for reflection. Gently leaning against the tree, she stares aimlessly at the water, thinking about what the future holds in store for her. It was painted at the end of the 19th century, a time when people were feeling a bit uncertain and nostalgic, as they were thinking about the things that could change in the next century. The feeling seems somewhat comparable to what some people experience just before the turn of the 21st century. Rationally, it may not make a big difference to move from one to the next year, decade, century, etc., but sometimes the changing of a number can put us in a nostalgic mood. Bernatzik captured that feeling of nostalgia here, something that many people back in that day could easily identify with. #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonCanvas #AustrianArt #AustrianPainter #AustrianArtist #WilhelmBernatzik #Bernatzik #Daydream #Daydreamer #Daydreaming #Reverie #Nostalgic #nostalgia
