The beauty of a kimono. Girl in Red Kimono before a Mirror (1894) was painted by the Dutch artist George Hendrik Breitner (1857-1932). It is the bright, glimmering red kimono with the white flower print that dominates this painting. And the mirror adds an extra dimension to this work. In combination with the dark-red-brownish background, it provides an intriguing painting. Breitner used a 16-year old model for this painting. Her name was Geesje Kwak, and he made a series of paintings of her wearing a Japanese kimono, focusing not so much on the model herself but on the colors and patterns on the kimonos that he asked her to wear. Breitner painted it in an Impressionist style. He did not try to capture the scene in detail with smooth brush strokes, but rather focused on the impact that these beautiful kimonos had on their environment. #Art #Painting #Artwork #ArtHistory #HistoryofArt #OilPainting #OilonCanvas #DutchArt #DutchArtist #DutchPainter #Red #RedKimono #Kimono #Japanese #Mirror #Girl #Colorful #Impressionism #Impressionist
