Le Rêve, by Picasso. 🎨A portrait of one of Picasso’s (many) mistresses, the 22-year old Marie-Thérèse Walter. This colour-saturated wonderful composition belongs to what we know as Picasso’s “erotic year”, 1932, months during which his paintings reached a new level of sensuality and he himself cemented his celebrity status as the most influential artist of the early 20th century. Some of his best-known works, from his colour-saturated portraits to his surrealist drawings, were created during those hectic months. Critics have repeatedly noted the erotic content of the painting, as the head allegedly resembles an erect penis. This work is nonetheless, one more of the many demonstrations of mastery of the Spanish genius. 👨🎨Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973) was a painter and sculptor, worldwide known as the creator of the cubist movement, the first great avant-garde, along with George Braque and Juan Gris. He showed great talent from youth and was educated in the classics and fine drawing, later enrolling in the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. He moved to Paris in 1900, where he immersed in the artistic environment of the moment and lived for most of his life. He was remarkably prolific and a great influence in the contemporary world. Parallel to his artistic life, Picasso was famous for being a member of the Communist Party of France until his death. 📐Height: 130 cm (51.18 in). Width: 97 cm (38.18 in).
