Sleep and his Half-Brother Death, (1874) , By John William Waterhouse(1849-1917). @lagra _art Oil on canvas, 70 x 91 cm This was Waterhouse's first Royal Academy exhibit, it was painted after both his younger brothers died of tuberculosis. Despite their similar poses in the painting, the character in the foreground is bathed in light, while his brother is shrouded in darkness; the first therefore represents Sleep, the latter Death. The personification of Sleep clasps poppies, symbolic of narcosis and dreamlike-states. 📍Private Collection #art #artist #classic #classicalart #art t_spotlight #artistsoninstagram #instaart #instaartwork #artists #painting #paintingsdaily #dailyart #oilpainting #oilart #drawings #sketchbook #likelike #classicart #oiloncanvas #artlover #oilpaints #italianart #conterporaryart #impressionistart #oilportrait #classicalrealism #portraitstudy #arthistory #art #artist st #fineart #classicalart #art #artistsoninstagram #instaart #instaartwork #artists #painting #paintingsdaily #dailyart #oilpainting #oilart #drawings ting #oilart #drawings #heartit #sketchbook #likelike #classicart #oiloncanvas #artlover #oilpaints #italianart #conterporaryart #impressionistart #oilportrait ilportrait
