Claude Monet (1840–1926):Houses at Argenteuil (detail), 1873, Oil on canvas, 54 x 73cm, Alte Nationalgalerie - Staatliche Museen zu Berlin @staatlichemuseenzuberlin Claude Monet and his family lived at Argenteuil, outside Paris, from 1871 to 1878. This was a period of financial security for Monet thanks to recent sales of his work to the Paris art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel. Here he painted many landscapes, including this one, reflecting the colourful, bright, vivid nature and little houses on modest lots at this summer resort.
